Hello to all you Manga Lovers!

Well, I felt I needed a page on my website especially dedicated to Manga.  If you have taken one of my Manga workshops, THANKS!  Be sure to sign up for my blog so you can get updates and info on workshops and art.  I have been teaching Manga/Anime drawing, sketching and inking workshops since 2004.  I fell in love with Manga art and I have been hooked on drawing, watching anime and reading manga ever since!

Manga is my most popular workshop with children and teens and I often have parents sit in on the workshops, too.  In these workshops, I teach the basics of Manga drawing, how it is different from traditional western comics and the techniques Mangaka (Manga artists) use as they create books, anime and illustrations. We explore a variety of traditional art mediums, commercial art mediums and some non-traditional mediums as we bring to life our characters.

Many students ask me about how to improve their drawing skills.  All I can say, is practice, practice, practice…which means draw Manga, all the time!  Doodle it in class, draw on napkins at Starbucks, draw on your notebooks, chalkboards and sticky notes!  The more you draw the better you will be at drawing and you will draw with confidence.  Also, fan art is a great way to learn to draw. Many manga students start out drawing their favorite anime or manga characters.  Eventually you will get bored and start creating your own characters from your imagination… the most fun!
