I’ve had a busy time painting. But not painting on a canvas. My husband and I painted our family room on Valentine’s Day! Well, actually, he didn’t really have a choice. We have been talking about doing this for a while, so I bought the paint and taped everything off on Friday while he was at work. So when he got home…surprise! Here is a picture of it all taped off and primed with a special primer for flaking paint. We had it professionally painted about 15 years ago, and the painter didn’t prime before he painted water based paint over oil paint (although he told me he did), so we have been living with flaking off paint for quite a while. Actually, we were done by early evening. For some reason, I am pretty fast and accurate with a paint brush. 🙂 And it helps to have someone who is 6′ tall around to paint all of the high spots I can’t reach. It was about 80 degrees that day so the paint dried quickly. (I am so sorry to all of you who have been buried in snow lately! I have been thinking of you and sending you warm thoughts.)
It is now a beautiful blue room. We get lots of sunshine in this room and I love how light and airy it feels during the day. This was our view out the window as we painted.
I am headed back to the studio tomorrow as I’ve got a new idea for a painting that I am really excited about and I can’t wait to get it started. Feathers are on my mind. I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s weekend. I am sure appreciating my sweet Valentine.
Have a wonderful, creative day, Janell
Your room looks cool–like a summer garden! Don’t you just loathe it when professionals do a lousy job–and you paid them for it? 😦 Your summer rose arbor is gorgeous!

Thanks, Susan. Yes, paid them very well as we didn’t realize they botched the job until later when it started flaking off. Yes, my roses are pretty confused, they usually bloom in late April, but all our hot weather has them convinced it is already spring.

Oh how wonderful! The same thing has happened to whomever painted several of the rooms in our house – so guess what’s on our to-do list this Spring Janell. You have a beautiful view out the back, yes 80 sounds so good ……….. have a lovely weekend and can’t wait to see your next painting!

Thanks, Mary. We used Zinsser peel stop and Kilz as base coats. Seems to have worked well. Good luck!

SOUNDS LIKE THE TIME PAINTERS DID OUR BASEMENT STAIRS IN THE OLD HOUSE. THEY FOUND MOM’S BRANDY BOTTLE (TO SPRINKLE HER FRUITCAKE WITH) AND THE PAINTING GOT MORRE AND MORE CROOKED!
