This Week’s Wildish Spirit Sketch

This is the sketch I created this week.  She is another in my ‘Wildish Spirit’ Series.

manga fairy girl drawing by Janell Mithani

I am still thinking of what animal or flowers I will add when I get to the painting.  I’d love to hear your thoughts, too.

Have a wonderful, creative, day, Janell

  1. You sure have some talent here but just one thing: do you shade it off with your fingers? Several art teachers told me it is preferable to hatch where the shadows are rather than to use your fingers. I’m just saying because you have a gift, thought I would just help, hope I don’t sound offensive.

  2. Hi Lulu, your comment isn’t offensive, it’s interesting. I like a softer blend so I don’t hatch much. I actually use blending stumps. Probably because when I first began art in my teens, I did pastel portraits. My sketches are working sketches in my sketchbook, in preparation of painting. I transfer my line drawing to the canvas with charcoal on the back. So sometimes I don’t even shade, but lately I’ve been taking time to do it. Sketching a lot while watching TV with my hubby. 🙂 Oh, but I do use my fingers when I paint to smudge or soften, the best teacher I ever had taught me to get super smooth skin by smoothing with my finger. It works for me as I’m super messy and have paint on every piece of clothing I own! 🙂

  3. She looks powerful and energetic! I think she would go well with something like a mountain goat or an elk, not as soft as a doe or fawn. I can see her leaping up a cliff, clinging to stumps and vines as she swarms up it. (Sorry if I threw you a challenge!)
