A Sketch of a Young Girl

Well, it has been a busy week. I know, and it’s only Tuesday!  I had an exhibit of my art and jewelry on Sunday and tomorrow I am hanging about 20 of my paintings at Zephyr, a local coffee and art gallery.  I have been working on this body of work for about a year and I am looking forward to showing it.  The exhibit will be up for about six weeks.   So, here is a recent manga sketch of a young girl from my sketchbook.  I think she will be showing up in one of my paintings soon.  🙂

Embedding a Google Calendar of My Art Workshops

I have been busy getting my 2014 workshop schedule of painting, mixed media and jewelry classes created.  Once I had a few months planned, I thought I would create a calendar on my website.  Being a visual kinda gal, I thought it would be easier to see a calendar instead of just dates typed out while you are figuring out if you are available for a workshop. (By the way, if you are local to Los Angeles area (or visiting), I would LOVE to have you attend one of my workshops.)

Being not so nifty (a big understatement here) at computer things like this, I went to the WP Help site and found this post: http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-calendar/.

But BEFORE you go through all the steps, you want to go to your Google calendar, go down to “My calendars”, click on the little down arrow and select “create a new calendar” from the drop down menu.  Then create your events that you want to share on THAT calendar.  Otherwise, you will share your entire calendar, like you Dr. appointments and errand reminders…(Like I did at first, HA!)

One of the other things you need to do is make your calendar public by sharing it. You need to click the box (see below) “Make this calendar public.”  DON’T CLICK the box below it that says “Share only my free/busy information (Hide details)”.  I accidentally did this and my calendar just displayed “BUSY” instead of the information about my workshops.  (That I had painstakingly typed!)  And it took me a day or two to figure out what I was doing wrong. (While sending not-so-nice thoughts towards my computer.)

If you have a minute, check out my calendar and let me know what you think.   I nested it under “Workshops and Speaking.”

Whew!  Now I can get back to painting…

Holiday Getaway and Photographing my Daughter at the Beach

The past few weeks have been busy with family, friends, celebrations, traveling and a bit of time for reading. We had a chance to run off to Cambria for a few days right before Christmas and had a wonderful time.  We walked the beach, hiked the trails at Fiscalini Ranch, took a tour of Hearst Castle, enjoyed fish and chips, barbecue… and I got a chance to do a quick photo shoot of my daughter at the beach.

I loved the beautiful light at sunset, but you have to work fast! We were running and chasing the light at the end. I fill flashed her in on the second shot as the light was pretty much gone.

We found both vintage dresses at thrift stores.  One of our favorite mom and daughter outings is to look for beautiful vintage dresses at thrift stores and vintage shops.  She found the purple dress while we were visiting with family in Oregon in August and the green and black dress here in the Los Angeles area in October.   I am pretty sure I had a dress similar to the purple dress when I was a teenager… guess that make me “vintage”. 🙂

Happy New Year!

I wish all of you a wonderful New Year!  2013 was AWESOME and I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know my blogger friends.  It still amazes me how many people I have met from all over the world through blogging. I have felt a great sense of community here in “bloggerland” and I look forward to sharing all of your news, artwork, photographs, poems, stories and wonderful camaraderie in the new year.  It has been so great to follow along with other bloggers and artists as they share their motivations and thoughts, their daily ups and downs and how and why they produce AMAZING work! Cheers to all of you and I wish you a wonderful, safe and prosperous New Year!

Montrose Art Walk

This last Saturday I spent the day painting at the Montrose Art Walk.  It was great fun to spend the day visiting with people as I painted.  And we had perfect weather!  Here’s a picture my husband took of me painting.  I had just started working on a canvas and was putting in the background and clouds.
