Swan Sketch

I have been enjoying sketching the serene beauty of swans lately.  I really love how elegant their long necks are and how beautifully they float on the water.

I think they influence and inspire my fae spirits long necks, too. I have consciously tried to draw them shorter, but my pencil doesn’t seem to listen. 🙂

One of my most favorite childhood memories was feeding the swans at Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon… and wading in the creek during the hot summer months.  I’d sure like to dip my toes in that cool water right now.

A Sweet Little Painting…

Fairy Painting, Tending Her Garden by Janell Mithani

Tending Her Garden, Acrylic on canvas, 8″ x 10″, by Janell Mithani

This sweet little fairy painting is a smaller size than I usually create.  It is just 8″ x 10″ and I usually work in 16″ x 20″ size or larger.  I had bought these new fun “twinkle” acrylic paints from ColourArte to use in some of my art workshops, so I needed to do some painting with them to see how they worked on canvas.  I also wanted to see if they would mix with my regular acrylic paints. They worked great! I loved the iridescent shine they have and how it is just enough to not overwhelm the painting.  You can find them at http://www.colourarte.com/.  The little fairy was added in right at the last-minute.  I decided she needed to be “Tending Her Garden.”

Fairy Sketches # 9 and # 10

Here are the last two sketches in my 10 Fairy Sketches Challenge.  Thanks again to Jonathan for motivating me.  Now I will begin creating some of them into paintings… I think I have a  summer’s worth of painting to do!  🙂

(Sorry about the quality of the pictures.   I didn’t have my camera with me so I used my phone camera.  )

Fairy #8, “Little Lamb”  —  I don’t know why, but lately when I sketch a fairy with curly hair she looks like a lamb to me!  Maybe it’s the ears… 🙂

Fairy # 3.  I’m having a hard time coming up with a name for her.  What do you think?

I sketched all of them in my bound sketchbook (which is filling up fast) with a pencil.  I took a break from sketching today to paint.  So I will get back to sketching tomorrow.

10 Fairy Sketches Art Challenge

Jonathon  over at By The Mighty Mumford nominated me for a TEN SENTENCE LOVE POEM  CHALLENGE – but with an art twist.  So, since I LOVE fairies,  I am doing 10 fairy sketches.  Hop over to his blog and check out his poetry. I am always amazed at people who have the gift of writing poetry. I love reading all the poetry here on WP!

I have been away for a couple of weeks with family visiting and the flu. 😦  But I didn’t forget, Jonathan!  Thanks for the motivation to get out my sketchbook. I also decided to add some figures in the mix so I could play with drawing wings.  (Ha!  Now I’m regretting all the life drawing classes I skipped in college!  🙂 )

So, here is Fairy Sketch #1 – “Flirty”
