Swan Sketch

I have been enjoying sketching the serene beauty of swans lately.  I really love how elegant their long necks are and how beautifully they float on the water.

I think they influence and inspire my fae spirits long necks, too. I have consciously tried to draw them shorter, but my pencil doesn’t seem to listen. 🙂

One of my most favorite childhood memories was feeding the swans at Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon… and wading in the creek during the hot summer months.  I’d sure like to dip my toes in that cool water right now.

A Meloncholy Sketch

I’ve been sketching some more and I just began working on another painting.  This sketch seems a little melancholy and her eyes seem a bit sad.  Hmm… possibly due to the fact that my daughter is heading back to college next week…all they way in Chicago?  I know she will have a great year, but I can’t help thinking of how much I will miss her.  It is interesting how my thoughts and emotions seem to be expressed in the characters I draw.

Well, I am going to think about all the Skype sessions, emails, texts and phone calls we will share while she is away.  That should cheer me up!  Thank goodness for technology. 🙂

A Sketch of a Young Girl

Well, it has been a busy week. I know, and it’s only Tuesday!  I had an exhibit of my art and jewelry on Sunday and tomorrow I am hanging about 20 of my paintings at Zephyr, a local coffee and art gallery.  I have been working on this body of work for about a year and I am looking forward to showing it.  The exhibit will be up for about six weeks.   So, here is a recent manga sketch of a young girl from my sketchbook.  I think she will be showing up in one of my paintings soon.  🙂
